Hi everybody,

I am sorry that this is rather late this week, but it could not be avoided. Besides, I haven't heard anything from any of you wondering about if we're having homework, so I imagine you haven't wanted to start it yet. Also, there isn't very much homework this week. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

Summer 2010

WEEK 10:
7/14/10: Tue, 9:00pm—12:00pm &
7/16/10: Fri, 12:25pm—3:25pm

Hi everybody,

This week in class, we had a bit of a rest from drawing. We did do some drawing, but most of the class was taken up playing around with Photoshop. Photoshop is a tool that I daresay all computer designers and artists use. It is so widespread that even ordinary people (like my parents) use, even though they know little about computers. It is a gigantic program and so it does many, many things. Please try to make a habit of using it. I am no expert at Photoshop, but I also use it regularly in my work.

We will continue using Photoshop next week for homework, so please give yourself time to work with it if you find yourself struggling. Also, regarding the 10 images that you collected this week, please retain those as we will be using ALL of them in subsequent exercises.

Last week for homework I introduced something that is new in a couple of ways. First, I put a few videos on my blog, something I'd never used before, that you should watch and follow by drawing along. It is new in a second way as well, and that is that it is explaining one method of creating a human head/face in profile. So this series of videos is a way to introduce the topic of the face as an object to draw. There will not only be more videos for you to watch over the next few weeks, but also a whole series of drawings that involve the face. If you follow along in earnest, I believe you'll be happy with the results that you produce by the end of the term.

WEEK 8:
6/30/10: Tue, 9:00pm—12:00pm &
7/03/10: Fri, 12:25pm—3:25pm

Hi everybody,

I had fun introducing Flash to you all this week. If you cannot tell, it really is one of my favorite applications to use, and I hope all of you learn to love it as much as I do. It is a very, very powerful application and can do so many things. Once you get the hang of it, you will be happy that you know how to use it, and it will be easy for you to impress your friends with what you will learn in upcoming classes next term and after. But I'm jumping ahead of things...let's get through this semester first! So work hard and do ALL your homework.
